Donna's Journey
I have always had an interest in natural health techniques and trained to become a massage therapist, completing the program in 2009. Early in my new career, I suffered an injury which almost ended it. I had injured my arm and experienced shooting pain up to my elbow with every flex of my wrist, an impossible situation for a massage professional. I was afraid I would have to quit doing what I loved! Then I went for training for Brain Integration Therapy and there one of the instructors noticed my pain and claimed she could truly help me. Using a process called Muscle Reactivation, she kept her promise; I was pain free in two and a half hours and have not had any trouble since. I was amazed, and I knew I had to learn this process so I completed training in Muscle Reactivation.
As a lifelong learner, I am always looking for new therapies that will enhance my practice and the well being of my clients. This constant search led me to the study of Bonnie Prudent’s Myotherapy technique, a process in which targets trigger points in the muscles to relax irritable spots. This therapy works well with in conjunction with Massage and Muscle Reactivation to optimize my ability to help my clients become pain free. I use a combination of all three therapies to treat each individual based on their specific needs. In my practice I have been able to use these therapies to help people who had given up hope, find relief and live a pain free life. That is a great blessing in my life.
Muscle Reactivation
This therapy increases mobility of locked muscles, reduces pain & speeds healing of damaged or scarred tissue from injuries/conditions such as: rotator cuff, frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel, sciatica, lower back, bulging discs, shoulder and neck pain, as well as knee and ankle pain.
Myotherapy
Myotherapy searches for “trigger points” which are irritable spots in the muscle. When trigger points flare up, they cause muscle spasm, weakness, restricted range of motion, poor circulation and pain. During a Myotherapy treatment, the patient’s trigger points are “defused” and subsequently “erased” by the Myotherapist who uses pressure from fingers, knuckles and elbows, followed by a kneading massage. The newly relaxed muscles are then passively stretched, and the patient is giving a series of corrective exercises to be used at home to help keep the muscles free from pain. Myotherapy has been very successful in the treatment of athletes, artists, musicians, singers, and computer operators as well as those in other occupations.
Swedish Massage
A relaxing massage using a combination of gliding, kneading, and cross-fiber friction to break up knots.
Deep Tissue Massage
This technique is similar Swedish massage with a deeper focus on the deeper layers of the muscle and the tissue that surrounds bones and joints (tendons and fascia). The deeper pressure allows the body to release chronic muscle tension.
Bamboo Fusion
A full body massage treatment performed using heated bamboo shoots that are hand crafted and shaped to glide smoothly over the body. This technique allows deep work into the muscles creating a "deep tissue" feel with the added benefit of heat and healing properties of bamboo.
